When to Say “I Do” in Tuscany
A Guide to the Seasons
Tuscany is not just a destination; it is a mood, a scent, and a light that changes dramatically with the calendar.
As luxury wedding planners rooted in this region, we often hear the question: “When is the best time to get married in Tuscany?” The answer, beautifully, is that there is no single "best" month—only the perfect month for you.
From the poetic mists of winter to the golden abundance of early autumn, each season offers a distinct version of the Italian dream. Here is your insider’s guide to the Tuscan calendar.
The Awakening
April – Early May
For the romantic who craves privacy and poetry.
This is Tuscany at its most intimate. The hills are so green they almost hurt your eyes, the wisteria is in full, heavy bloom, and the light has that soft, watercolour quality that photographers dream of.
The Vibe: Exclusive and quiet. The summer crowds haven’t arrived, meaning your wedding party can roam the cobblestone streets of Montepulciano or Pienza almost entirely alone.
The Logistics: While the days are mild, the sun sets earlier and evenings carry a chill. This is the season for candlelit, long-table dinners hosted inside historic granai (barns) or beneath the heated loggias of a Medici villa.
The Aesthetic: Think vibrant green palettes, tulips, ranunculus, and fresh olive branches.
The Golden Hours
Mid-May, June, September, Early October
The "no-brainer" sweet spot. (And our personal favourite.)
If Tuscany had a public relations team, they would choose these months. The climate is temperate—warm enough for an Aperol Spritz by the pool, yet cool enough for a suit jacket after dark.
The Light: In May and June, the days are gloriously long. In September and October, you get the added bonus of the "Golden Hour" stretching well into dinner service, casting the clay hills in amber and honey.
The Landscape: June offers the first blush of wild roses; September brings the grape harvest. Your guests can arrive early to participate in a vendemmia, pressing their own wine the day before your wedding.
Why we love it: These months offer the best of both worlds—the vibrancy of summer without sacrificing the lush, freshly bloomed landscapes of spring or the harvest-rich textures of autumn. It is the only time of year when you can style a wedding with sun-drenched citrus one day and moody, vineyard-deep burgundies the next. The flexibility it gives designers and chefs is simply unmatched.
La Dolce Estate
July & August
For the hedonist. The pool party lover. The night owl.
Let’s address the elephant in the vineyard: it is hot. But if you embrace it rather than fight it, the Italian high summer delivers a vibrancy unmatched all year.
The Vibe: Sun-drenched, loud, and incredibly alive. The sunflowers are at their peak, the tomatoes taste like candy, and the evening air vibrates with cicadas.
The Strategy: As a planner, this is where timing becomes an art. We shift your timeline later—think a 6:00 PM ceremony, followed by cocktails as the sun dips behind the Cypress trees. We prioritize deep shade, high ceilings, and airflow. Think gelato carts, limoncello stations, and fans woven into your welcome bag design.
The Reward: A sultry, sensual energy that feels less like a formal wedding and more like a week-long holiday that just happens to end in a marriage.
The Velvet Season
Mid-October – March
For the intimate elopement, the fire-side feast, and the spa lovers.
This is Tuscany’s best kept secret. The crowds have vanished, the prices soften, and the region reveals its soul.
The Landscape: Autumn sets the hills ablaze with ochre and rust. Winter, meanwhile, offers something rare: visibility. On a crisp January day, you can see the snow-capped Apuan Alps from villas in Chianti.
The Indoor-Outdoor Rhythm: While a fully outdoor cocktail hour is unlikely, this season is about the quality of the indoors. We aren't just finding a "Plan B"—we are curating a Plan A that is intentionally cosy.
The Spa & Thermal Connection: Many of our most exclusive estates have a secret weapon. Properties like Adler Thermae or the castles near Bagno Vignoni offer private thermal spas. Imagine your wedding weekend beginning with a soak in waters once frequented by the Medici family. It transforms a winter wedding into a wellness retreat.
The Mood: Low guest counts, high romance, heavy velvet, and truffles shaved over everything.
