Life After Dark!
Lucca is not really famous for its night life. In fact, in the center, most cafés close around 7:30pm, and by 10:30pm only restaurants remain open. If you want fun, then Viareggio, by the beach, Torre del Lago (whith a huge gay scene) or Pisa and its numerous students, are better places to go.
But today is a Holiday here: la Festa della Repubblica celebrates the founding of the Italian Republic, in 1946.
So yesterday night, at midnight, the 2 cafés on the Walls were still open, an packed. And _the_ Irish pub of Lucca, right outside the Walls, by the railway station, but so discreet that you would never find it on a normal night, was overflowing and the crowd was taking over the entire piazza.
But of course I did not have my camera with me, so you will have to take my word for it!
