Life in Lucca: Lucca's Outdoor Cinema
There
are 6 movie theatres in the center of Lucca. We are not talking
multiplex here, this is Lucca: they are all old-fashion cinemas, each of
them playing a single movie. Of course, this being Italy, a lot of them
are closed in the summer. Actually, they are all closed in August!
Luckily, in the summer, every night after dark (9:30pm), we have the
Estate Cinema (the Summer Cinema).
The cinema takes all of Piazza Guidiccioni, off of via Sant'Andrea, near via Filungo, you can't miss it if you walk by it.
No matter what movie is playing, it is usually packed. Being outside in the cooler evening temperature, watching the Torre delle Ore above the screen, can really enhance "Herbie the Love Bug"! Of course most movies are in Italian, foreign films are dubbed, so brush up on your Italian.
