Glimpses of Lucca: Towers

Picture of Snowy  Torre  Guinigi When walking through the streets of Lucca, you will see many interesting building facades, store windows, people, but also, if you lift your eyes a bit, you will get glimpses of some of the many towers that overlook it.

The most famous of the towers is of course the Torre Guinigi, with its distinctive crown of oak trees. You can climb its 230 steps to get to the top and get a great view of the city (but no, you cannot get married there, the trees take up too much space for even a small wedding party to fit on the top terrace).

You can also visit the Torre delle Ore, on via Filungo.

And then most churches have a bell tower, and there are a LOT of churches in Lucca, the city of a hundred churches.
